How do I care for my new houseplant?
Check out our houseplants 101 guide for tips on watering, sunlight, soil types, pests, and more! We're always here to help too, so feel free to email us or reach out through our contact us page.
Can i plant my houseplant directly in my 3D printed planter?
Yes, you sure can! The material we use for our planters holds up well to dirt and water. If you put the planter outside, we recommend avoiding putting it in direct sunlight or the heat may warp the pot over time. Feel free to leave it in its nursery pot too and just set it in the pot. Whatever you prefer.
What material are your planters made of?
The material, or filament, we use is called PLA (polylactic acid). It is a plant-based material made from renewable resources like as cornstarch and sugar cane, offering an eco-friendly alternative to many 3D printed materials. All the filament we use is high quality and made in the USA to give it the pot a clean, smooth finish the is strong and durable.
Is PLA safe for houseplants?
Yes! PLA is a safe and popular material for houseplant pots. Our planters are made from PLA, a plant-based 3D printing material made from renewable resources like cornstarch and sugar cane. PLA is slightly porous, which can help excess moisture evaporate and allow the soil to dry between waterings, helping reduce the risk of overwatering and root rot. All of our planters have drainage holes and trays as well to help avoid overwatering.
Can 3D printed planters live outside?
Yes! 3D printed planters can be used outside, with one important caveat to avoid placing them in strong, direct sunlight for extended periods. Excessive heat can cause PLA to soften or warp over time. For best results, keep your 3D printed planter in a shaded or partially shaded area. You should bring your houseplant and pot in during the winter as well. Houseplants generally don't do well in cold, harsh conditions, and extreme cold may crack your pot over time. As with any outdoor planter, make sure it has proper drainage to prevent water from pooling around your plant’s roots. Thankfully, all our planters have drainage holes built in!
