The Begonia Maurice Amey, also known as Miss Mum Begonia and Mallet Stem Begonia, is a stunning houseplant that has metallic pink, green and silvery leaves. This cane begonia is a fairly fast grower especially in an ideal environment, and when it is very happy and healthy it can grow small pink flowers.
Begonias can be more difficult to grow indoors since they need added humidity to grow healthy foliage, but they are worth the effort because their almost iridescent pink leaves brighten up any space. Cane begonia are a little easier to care for than tuberous or rex begonia, so this is a great one to start with in your collection.
Care Tips:
Water about once a week when the soil is mostly dry. If the leaves look limp, it's definitely ready for a drink! Generally, the larger the pot size, the less often it needs water.
Humidity - strongly prefers added humidity between 60-80%. The edges and tips of the leaves will dry out and turn dry in lower humidity environments.
Light - they prefer bright indirect light but can be happy in medium light settings as well. Too much direct sunlight will burn and dry out the leaves.
Repot once you notice roots growing out the bottom of the nursery pot and/or it dries out more quickly between watering. When you choose a new pot for it, only go up 1-2" in pot size at a time to encourage healthy foliage growth.
