African Violets, Pink Flowers | Saintpaulia ionantha

African Violets (Saintpaulia ionantha) are such a fun way to add flowers to your houseplant collection. There are so many different varieties with different colored and patterned leaves and flowers, and it's fun to collect them all! These African Violets product beautiful magenta pink leaves, and they have fuzzy variegated leaves as well.

African Violets are known for being a bit difficult, but if you give them the right environment, they will thrive and flower often. Self watering planters are great for these plants because they like their soil to stay consistently moist (but not soaked). They also prefer more warm and humid environments, and though it may be tempting, try not to touch their leaves too much or they may get brown spots. When flowers die off, prune them back to encourage more, healthy growth.

Care Tips:

• Water about once a week to keep the soil moist but not soaked. A self watering planter is a great option for these gals. Be sure to use fertilizer as well, but use half the strength you use for other houseplants.
• Light - bright indirect light is by far the best option.
• Humidity - prefers added humidity, so put it near a humidifier or a plant cabinet with air circulation.
• Repot once you notice roots coming out of the bottom of the planter and/or it starts needing water more often. When you choose a new pot for it, only go up 1-2" in pot size at a time to encourage healthy foliage growth.
